The Special Olympics Word Games Started This Week in LA To Historic CrowdsOne of the biggest turnout for the Special Olympics showed up yesterday for the start of the 2015 World Special Olympics in Los Angeles.

Michelle Obama officially started they games by welcoming thousands of disabled athletes on Saturday before a massive crowd filled with cheers and praise for the athletes courage and determination.

“My husband and I, we are so proud of you, so incredibly proud of you, and we love you all from the bottom of our hearts,” commented first lady said.

Over 6,000 total athletes from 165 countries around the world filled the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The athletes will participate in 25 sports over nine days, ranging from weightlifting to the triathlon.

L.A. also hosted the Special Olympics in 1972.
